Arrived at the airport early or running late? American Airlines provides two distinct same-day travel options: Same-Day Confirmed and Same-Day Standby.
Same-Day Confirmed Changes
Allows you to lock in a guaranteed seat on an alternate flight departing on the same calendar day between the exact same origin and destination airports. Fees start around $75-$150, but are waived for Executive Platinum, Platinum Pro, Platinum, and select corporate travelers.
Same-Day Standby
Standby allows passengers to wait for open seats on earlier flights without paying a fee. All passengers traveling domestically are eligible for complimentary standby.
For complete rules, see the American Airlines Flight Changes landing page.
